UVA was established in 1819 and founded by Thomas Jefferson. It is located in Charlottesville, Virginia. UVA competes in the NCAA’s Division I and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). The Virginia Cavaliers, also called the Wahoos or Hoos, sport the colors orange and navy blue. The mascot is a mounted swordsman or Cavalier and is a reference to when the Commonwealth was a major source of supporters of the English crown. The Virginia athletics program has won 14 National Championships.
