Virgin Islands Flags
The U. S. Virgin Islands flag denotes the rich and colorful heritage of the Islands and acknowledges the strength and protection of the United States. The US Virgin Island flag consists of a golden eagle stretched between the letters “V” and “I.” The eagle holds three arrows which symbolize the Islands of St. Thomas, St. Croix and Saint John and an olive branch. The color yellow denotes the characteristic of the Territory and its flowers, blue and green symbolize the hills and the crystal clear waters while red epitomizes the love of the people. Originally, a Dutch colony, the U.S. purchased the Islands for $25 million in gold to help maintain control of the Panama Canal during World War I.
